What a Weekend!

I don't think we could have packed in anything more this President's Day Weekend. Friday night after Stations of the Cross and the meatless supper held afterwards we scooted across the church parking lot to the movie theater and watched the Veggie Tale Movie: The Pirates That Don't Do Anything! Nate and Drew insisted we watch this movie. Mean old Mom didn't take them to see the premier of the movie at the mall with the rest of the homeschool kids when it first came out so here we are. I think we all enjoyed it. Scott and I commented on how fun it is to hear the little kids in the theater belly laugh during all the funny parts.

Saturday morning the boys had swim practice down at the Agana Pool. This is the pool where the past two swim meets have been held. Drew has "done" the long course before but this was Nate's first time swimming that long length. (Nate missed the long course swim meet due to the Math Counts competition he participated in~and did very well!) Let's just say Nate is not too into swimming the long course any time soon. Drew stated that it was a piece of cake and bring on more. What a difference between the two of them.

After swim practice and a failed attempt to use their Game Stop gift cards (lack of working together to pick out a game that they could share) we headed for home and the boys were off to mow 2 of their clients' lawns. After a quick lunch, we headed for a friend's condo for a BBQ/pool party with other dental/pharmacy families. The meal was potluck and we ate good! The pool was inviting and the sunset was sensational. After all that swimming in the morning I can't believe our boys were the last to crawl out of the pool. Once we had gathered all the water guns and snorkel masks we slowly made our way to the car. Before heading for home we made a pit stop at the famed Cold Stone Creamery and topped off the day with a little taste of the good stuff!

Sunday brought religious ed for the boys, church, and baked goods for fellowship afterwards. After a quick trip to the BX we made our way back home so Scott could get our lawn mowed. Nate had a meeting with the Boy Scouts to go through all their gear and do inventory and Drew was busy playing the Wii Endless Ocean game all afternoon. I was able to convince Scott to help me do some grocery shopping (btw, how is it when he comes with me we always spend more than when I go alone???) and put it all away.

Later Sunday night we had our friends, Mike and Natalee, and their children over for a cookout. Natalee was watching another of our neighbors 2 young sons for the evening and they came along too. The evening air was a little chilly (it must have been in the 70's....brrr) so we ate inside. It was on the windy side too so I think the plates would have blown away. The little ones enjoyed the dry erase board that I use for our boys for homeschooling. We just don't have any toys around here for little ones to play with. Scott and I were a little overwhelmed with all the "activity" 3 year olds and younger are so well known for. What are we getting ourselves into in the future with this adoption?

Monday was another busy day! The boys began by mowing their last lawn of the weekend while Scott received a massage at the gym (a Christmas gift to him by his loving wife :->). Once we were all home and packed up we headed for Guam's waterpark, Tarza. We met up with our friends, Mike and Natalee, and spent the day riding water slides, drifting along the lazy river, and lounging on the beach chairs. It was the perfect day to go since most of the kids on the island had school today, therefore the park was not busy at all! The weather held out and we all had a really good time! I even entered the park for free since I had proof that it was my birthday month! What a deal!

Boy, am I glad that tomorrow is a "work" day. I don't think I could take another day of fun....

What did you do for President's Day weekend?

Groundhog Day

This year I totally forgot about Groundhog Day until it was over. I remember when I was growing up I thought that maybe Spring would come early to NW Ohio if Puxatawny Phil didn't see his shadow. Not that I didn't love those snow delays or school cancellations due to snow and ice in the early Spring but I really thought winter might be a little shorter without that shadow on February 2nd. Here on Guam it's hard to even remember that we are "in" the winter season right now. We do see an occasional weather report on some of those national news shows we come across late at night. Right now China is suffering with extreme weather conditions and several areas on the mainland are seeing wintery conditions. Brrr!!! At least my friend, P., in upstate NY tells me she is enjoying herself right now~making memories with her family at the ski slopes and the ice rink. It's amazing how one year you can be living on a tropical island and the next year you find yourself in the land of snow and cold. Keep your fingers crossed that we don't end up in Minot, ND in winter 2009. I don't think I could handle the extreme change in temperature. I would have to ease my way back into that cold weather first. Actually, let's just hope that we can continue to be stationed in warm weather locales so I don't have to buy any mittens and scarves any time soon!
