Time to think about packing our bags!

It's been an exciting week here in the O household. We have finally heard, after many weeks of sitting on pins and needles, where we will be moving to this summer when it is time for us to PCS (permanent change of station). We have verbal orders to........

Bolling AFB, Washington DC!

Woohoo! We are going to the East Coast. We will get to see sites we've never seen before (except for Scott who visited DC on his senior class trip). We will once again see four seasons and colorful fall leaves. We will be wearing shoes and hats, coats and mittens. We will be driving in the snow and the ice. We will be suffering in the cold and and wondering why the days are so short. WAIT! What are we thinking?!

No, really we are excited; this is a good thing. We have loved our time on Guam and hope to come back some day but it is time for Scott to move forward in his career. Scott will be out of his current field of pharmacy and entering into a new direction, at least for 4 years. Scott's new title will be Chief of Homeland Defense Operations. Scott will be working for the Surgeon General in the Medical Readiness Department. Kudos to Scott for being competitively selected for this position. We're so proud of you!

I think we all have things we are missing and ready to enjoy once again back in the states. I am excited to think of so many homeschool field trips we can partake in ~ really learn firsthand. We have so many restaurants that we miss and can't wait to visit too. Best of all, we have friends who currently live in Alexandria we are excited to see again and family in Ohio who will be able to visit us much more often than they have been able to the past 6 years.

Now I have to ask: who can provide me with all the important details about where to live, where there are good schools (if we should choose to stop homeschooling), and all those other must-know-before-moving-to-DC tidbits? Scott and I would appreciate any information that can help us avoid making a bad decision in our rush to set up our new household.

Mark, Amy, and Kari: We did try to call you several times with our news before we posted but we just couldn't hold it in any longer!

Congratulations, glad to hear you are happy about moving. Sorry I can't help you with the area, but we are so happy you get to move back state side. We should plan a reunion with the group. Christe

Hi Jean,
My name is Linda Young. I am a cousin in law to Dana (dear daughter sha mei). I have been reading your blog since Nov because my son got stationed at the hospital in Guam. He is in the Navy. Here is the ironic part I live in Fredericksburg VA. 50 miles sound of DC. We love it here. I have lived here for 25 years. My email is lindayoung84@comcast.net if you have any questions I can help with. Congratulations to your husband!

That's exciting. Congratulations on the move. Although, from your pictures, Guam looks like paradise. It's nice to have seasons (even snow) too, though, and to be near to family.

How wonderful! It's looks like from your pictures that you will be leaving paradise, but DC will be so exciting! I'm jealous just thinking about all the wonderful homeschool field trips and opportunities for exploring!

Wow! Amazing job title and opportunity for you, Scott, congratulations! And GREAT to hear you're moving to Virginia. You'll love it here and yea, just 3 1/2 hrs from Va Beach. Wish I could help with info on northern VA but other than visit a few times (very cool, so much to do!) I'm clueless. We are planning to take Jennifer up to the National Zoo at some point soon...hear it's great...but may save the monuments for when she's just a little older and they mean more. Anyway, enjoy the island all you can and Happy Birthday to Lily...I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the ladybug cake and matching dress! Hugs, Tina

Hi Jean - Just checked your blog. I did not realize that you are moving to DC soon. I was hoping to visit you in that sunshine warm place of Guam. On the other hand, it is much closer now to visit you.
Congrats on your husband's new job.

Congrats on the new job and assignment. I don't know anything about the area or base, but I thought I would give you this site
http://www.afcrossroads.com/ in case you have never heard of it. They have a spouses forum (some of the spouses are a little out there lol) but you can generally ask and will find someone with lots of information. Also there's a DOD Installation section. Anyway, Just wanted to say YAY! :)
